Woman sentenced for robbing Guaranty Bank in Roseville

MINNEAPOLIS – Yesterday in federal court, a 50-year-old woman was sentenced in
connection to the September 14, 2010, robbery of Guaranty Bank in Roseville. United States
District Court Judge John R. Tunheim sentenced Michelle Lynn Matthew, no known address, to
105 months in prison on one count of bank robbery. Matthew was indicted on May 17, 2011, and
pleaded guilty on July 12, 2011.
In her plea agreement, Matthew admitted stealing approximately $3,313 from the bank,
which is located in a Rainbow Foods grocery store on Larpenteur Avenue West. During the
robbery, Matthew handed a teller a note that read, “Give me all the money out of your drawer,
please don’t say anything, if you do he will kill me. Please hurry.” Matthew also reiterated the
threat verbally while pointing to an innocent man, who was standing in the produce section of
the grocery store. She claimed he was the person who would harm her if she did not get the
money.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the
Roseville Police Department, and the St. Paul Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant
U.S. Attorney Lola Velazquez-Aguilu.
