Minnesota man indicted for robbing a US Bank

MINNEAPOLIS—Earlier today in federal court in St. Paul, a 54-year-old man was indicted
for the January 2, 2012, robbery of a US Bank in Calhoun Square. Thomas Scott Wright, who is
currently incarcerated in the Hennepin County jail, was charged with one count of bank
robbery.
The indictment alleges that Wright stole approximately $1,700 from the bank. According to
police reports, a man, later identified as Wright, walked into the bank, placed a paper bag on the
counter and said, “Please just do it. I have a gun. It’s tough times and the holidays.” After
receiving the cash, Wright walked out of the bank. He was arrested on January 3, 2012. The
money was not recovered.
If convicted, Wright faces a potential maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. All sentences
will be determined by a federal district court judge. This case is the result of an investigation by
the Minneapolis Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being
prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David P. Steinkamp.
An indictment is a determination by a grand jury that there is probable cause to believe that offenses have been committed by a defendant. A defendant, of course, is presumed innocent until he or she pleads guilty or is proven guilty at trial.
