three KC men indicted for armed robberies
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that three Kansas City, Mo., men were indicted by a federal grand jury today for armed robberies at three local businesses.
Mohammad S. Rashid, also known as “A.C.,” 22, Terrell E. Lewis, 22, and Robert L. Smith, 19, all of Kansas City, Mo., were charged in a six-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City.
Today’s indictment alleges that Rashid, Lewis and Smith robbed three Kansas City, Mo., businesses at gunpoint in the fall of 2009. They allegedly robbed both King Chef Restaurant, 1660 E. 63rd St., and Fast Stop convenience store, 3500 Independence Ave., on Oct. 27, 2009. They allegedly robbed Five Guys Burgers and Fries Restaurant, 8952 N.W. Skyview Ave., on Nov. 3, 2009.
The indictment also alleges that they used a rifle in the Oct. 27, 2009, robberies and that they used a rifle and a handgun in the Nov. 3, 2009, robbery. Rashid, Lewis and Smith are each charged with three counts of using a firearm in a crime of violence.
Phillips cautioned that the charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney D. Michael Green. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.
