KC man, woman charged with bank robbery
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Kansas City, Mo., man and woman were charged in federal court today with robbing First Federal Bank in Grandview, Mo.
Richard A. Davis, 20, and Kiaira D. Minor, 20, both of Kansas City, were charged in a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City. They remain in federal custody pending a detention hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011.
Today’s criminal complaint charges Davis and Minor with stealing $3,374 from First Federal Bank, 5901 Main in Grandview, on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011.
According to an affidavit filed in support of the complaint, Davis entered the bank at approximately 11:20 a.m. Waving a pistol, the affidavit says, he repeatedly ordered everyone to “Get down!” Davis allegedly threw a black bag over the teller counter and demanded that it be filled. He jumped over the teller counter, the affidavit says, and again instructed a bank employee to fill the bag. When the teller drawer was open, the bank employee stepped away from the drawer and got down on the ground. Davis allegedly took the money from the drawer, jumped back over the teller counter, and left the bank.
Another bank employee saw Davis get into a white Chrysler, which was being driven by another person as it left the bank’s parking lot. A short distance from the bank, a Grandview police officer saw a vehicle matching that description traveling northbound on 71 Highway. The officer stopped the vehicle, which was being driven by Minor. Davis and Minor were arrested.
Phillips cautioned that the charge contained in this complaint is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul S. Becker. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Grandview, Mo., Police Department.
