FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 6, 2011

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Kansas man and woman were indicted by a federal grand jury today for stealing 36 handguns from a Springfield, Mo., business.

Scott R. Fonseca, 31, of Olathe, Kan., and Amanda White, 19, of Gardner, Kan., were charged in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Springfield, Mo.

Today’s indictment alleges that Fonseca and White stole 36 handguns from 417 Guns, 5337 S. Campbell, Springfield, on May 28, 2010. The alleged theft included firearms of various calibers, from several different manufacturers.

Phillips cautioned that the charge contained in this indictment is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Randall D. Eggert. It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Springfield, Mo., Police Department and the Merriam, Kan., Police Department.
