KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced today that a Greenwood, Mo., man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for receiving child pornography over the Internet.

Andrew M. Jones, 28, of Greenwood, was charged in a three-count indictment that was returned under seal by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Mo., on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. The indictment was unsealed and made public today upon Jones’ arrest and initial court appearance.

Today’s indictment alleges that Jones attempted to receive child pornography over the Internet between May 21 and June 12, 2008. Jones is also charged with one count of receiving child pornography over the Internet on June 20, 2008, and one count of possessing child pornography on Aug. 11, 2009.

Phillips cautioned that the charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Katharine Fincham. It was investigated by the Greenwood, Mo., Police Department.
