alba man pleads guilty to three bank robberies
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – David M. Ketchmark, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that an Alba, Mo., man pleaded guilty in federal court today to robbing three banks in Joplin, Mo., Webb City, Mo., and Springfield, Mo.
Michael D. Manis, 52, of Alba, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard E. Dorr to the charges contained in an April 3, 2012, federal indictment.
By pleading guilty today, Manis admitted that he used a weapon to rob U.S. Bank in Webb City on Feb. 14, 2012; Great Southern Bank in Springfield on Feb. 24, 2012; and Great Southern Bank in Joplin on March 14, 2012. According to court documents, Manis told law enforcement officers that he used a different pellet gun for each of the robberies.
Under federal statutes, Manis is subject to a sentence of up to 25 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $250,000. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Kelleher. It was investigated by the Joplin, Mo., Police Department and the FBI.
