OXFORD, Miss. – William C. Martin, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi, and Daniel McMullen, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced that:

Tony Cooper, 32, of Ruleville, was sentenced yesterday, following his conviction earlier this year on bribery charges. Senior Judge Neal B. Biggers, Jr. ordered Cooper to serve 51 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release. Judge Biggers also ordered Cooper to report for service in 30 days.

In March, a jury found that Cooper, a former narcotics officer with the Indianola, Mississippi, police department, corruptly accepted bribes and in exchange protected drug traffickers from legitimate law enforcement.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Oxford, Mississippi office and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Scott Leary and Chad Lamar.
