OXFORD, Miss. – William C. Martin, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi, and Daniel McMullen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Mississippi, announce that:

Thomas D. Keenum, Sr., 71, an attorney from Booneville, entered a guilty plea today before United States District Judge W. Allen Pepper, Jr., in Greenville, Mississippi. Keenum waived indictment and pled guilty to a one-count Information charging him with bank fraud.

According to the Information, Keenum submitted fraudulent title opinions to various banks in order to obtain hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans, in violation of Title 18, Section 1344 of the United States Code.

At sentencing, Keenum faces a maximum possible penalty of not more than 30 years in prison; not more than a $1,000,000 fine; and not more than five years supervised release. He could also be ordered to pay restitution to his victims and to forfeit any ill-gotten gains to the United States.

This case was investigated by the FBI and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Clay Joyner and Clyde McGee.
