OXFORD, Miss. – Felicia C. Adams, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi, announces that:

Gregory Edward Vernon, 51, of Florence, Arizona, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Michael P. Mills to 400 months incarceration for transporting child pornography into Mississippi. The Court ordered that the 33 and 1/3 year sentence run consecutive to a 13 year Arizona sentence Vernon received in Arizona on April 21, 2011 for sexual exploitation of a minor and dangerous crime against a child. At the end of his incarceration, Vernon will be on supervised release for a ten year term.

Vernon was arrested in Tunica, Mississippi, by the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force on an arrest warrant from Arizona on August 8, 2006. At the time of his arrest he possessed a computer containing images and movies of child pornography which jurors found he had brought into Mississippi. After Vernon’s return to Arizona, a federal grand jury in Mississippi indicted Vernon on charges of transporting child pornography into Mississippi. Once Arizona authorities were finished prosecuting Vernon, he was returned to Mississippi to face the charges and was found guilty at trial in September 2011.

This case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service, the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office, and the Memphis United States Secret Service and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul Roberts.
