OXFORD, Miss. – Felicia C. Adams, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi, and James C. Lee, Special Agent in Charge of IRS Criminal Investigation announced that:

Thelbert Lamont Lesure, 40, of Holly Springs, Mississippi, plead guilty last week before United States Chief District Judge Michael P. Mills, in Oxford, Mississippi. Lesure pled guilty to count one of an indictment, charging him with knowingly preparing and transmitting a fraudulent tax return to the IRS.

Lesure was released on a pre-existing bond pending sentencing, which will take place following the completion of a presentence report. At sentencing, he faces a maximum possible penalty of five years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and three years supervised release.

IRS Special Agent in Charge, James C. Lee, stated that “return preparers have a responsibility to prepare accurate tax returns and will be held accountable when they knowingly and intentionally prepare them falsely.”

This case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation in the Oxford, Mississippi, office and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Clay Dabbs.
