OXFORD, Miss. – Felicia C. Adams, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi, together with Daniel McMullen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Mississippi, and Phillip Durham, Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Field Division, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), announces:

Jack Settles, 56, of Indianapolis, Indiana, has been sentenced by United States District Judge Sharion Aycock, in Aberdeen, Mississippi, following his guilty plea in January to a one count information, charging him with making and keeping false records regarding the sale of cigarettes.

Judge Aycock ordered Settles to serve six months of home detention, followed by three years supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $40,000 fine and to forfeit $160,000 to the United States.

The investigation of this case was a joint effort by the FBI, ATF, the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, and the Tupelo Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Chad Lamar and Clyde McGee.
