
Informational: Federal Court Initial Appearance
Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that during a federal court session in Billings, on December 22, 2009, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn S. Ostby, the following individual appeared:
RAS YAH MIKES MATTA, a 26-year-old, made an initial appearance on a complaint alleging felon in possession of a firearm. He is currently detained. If charged with this offense, MATTA faces possible penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervised release. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Ed Zink is the prosecutor for the United States. The investigation was conducted by a cooperative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; Montana Probation and Parole; City-County Special Investigation Unit in Billings; and U.S. Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force.
A complaint is merely a written statement of the essential facts constituting the offense charged.
