Informational: Federal Court Initial Appearance

The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings, on August 10, 2010, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn S. Ostby, the following individual appeared:

JOHN AUSTIN MARONEY, a 24-year-old resident of Livingston, made an initial appearance on a complaint alleging escape. He is currently detained. If charged with this offense, MARONEY faces possible penalties of 5 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica T. Fehr is the prosecutor for the United States. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service.

A complaint is merely a written statement of the essential facts constituting the offense(s) charged.
