Shawn Gerald Krum Pleads Guilty in U.S. Federal Court

The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in

Billings, on January 5, 2011, before Chief U.S. District Judge Richard F. Cebull, SHAWN GERALD KRUM, a 29-year-old resident of Worden, pled guilty to distribution of cocaine. Sentencing has been set for April 6, 2011. He is currently released on special conditions.

In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph E. Thaggard, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:

Between March 2008 and September 25, 2008, the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation (MDCI) conducted an undercover investigation of drug trafficking in Billings.

An undercover MDCI Agent purchased quantities of cocaine directly from KRUM in transactions that occurred in Billings during this time period. The transactions included the following:

April 2, 2008, one ounce of a substance or mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine was purchased;

April 17, 2008, four ounces of a substance or mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine was purchased;

May 15, 2008, one ounce of a substance or mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine was purchased;

June 17, 2008, two ounces of a substance or mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine was purchased;

August 4, 2008, two ounces of a substance or mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine was purchased;

August 18, 2008, four ounces of a substance or mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine was purchased; and,

September 11, 2008, two ounces of a substance or mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine was purchased.

On September 25, 2008, the MDCI seized ten ounces of a substance or mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine from KRUM.

KRUM faces possible penalties of 20 years in prison, a $1,000,000 fine and 3 years supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.
