Richard Bruce Sanders Sentenced in U.S. District Court

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, March 17, 2011

The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings, on March 16, 2011, before Senior U.S. District Judge Jack D. Shanstrom, RICHARD BRUCE SANDERS, a resident of Roundup, appeared for sentencing. SANDERS was sentenced to a term of:

Prison: 78 months

Special Assessment: $100

Supervised Release: 3 years

SANDERS was sentenced after a federal district court trial in which he was found guilty of being a felon-in-possession of a firearm. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan R. Whittaker prosecuted the case for the United States.

Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that SANDERS will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, SANDERS does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.

The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Musselshell County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
