The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings, on June 1, 2011, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn S. Ostby, the following individual appeared:

MICHAEL JAMES LONG, a 50-year-old resident of Sanders, MT, made an initial appearance on a complaint alleging threats against the Social Security Administration. He is currently detained. If charged with this offense, LONG faces possible penalties of 6 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica T. Fehr is the prosecutor for the United States. The investigation was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Protective Service and the Treasure County Sheriff's Office.

A complaint is merely a written statement of the essential facts constituting the offense charged.
