The United States Attorney's Office announced that on June 10, 2011, in Great Falls, after a federal district court trial before Senior U.S. District Judge Charles C. Lovell, GEOFFREY SCHARDIEN, a 34-year-old resident of Great Falls, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, and distribution of cocaine. Sentencing is set for September 27, 2011. He is currently detained.

SCHARDIEN faces possible penalties of a mandatory minimum of 5 years in prison and could be sentenced to 40 years, a $2,000,000 fine and at least 4 years supervised release.

CORY REED DAVIS, a 28-year-old resident of Utah, was found not guilty of the above charges.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Vince Carroll and Michael T. Wolfe prosecuted the case for the United States.

The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation and the Great Falls Police Department.
