Joy Crabtree Pigman Sentenced in U.S. District Court
The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings, on June 22, 2011, before Senior U.S. District Judge Jack D. Shanstrom, JOY CRABTREE PIGMAN, a 58-year-old resident of Billings, appeared for sentencing. PIGMAN was sentenced to a term of:
Prison: 70 months
Special Assessment: $100
Supervised Release: 5 years
PIGMAN was sentenced in connection with her guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine
In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tara J. Elliott, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:
Between December 2007 and November 2009, PIGMAN and several other individuals distributed in excess of 500 grams of methamphetamine throughout Yellowstone County.
A co-conspirator who would have testified that s/he supplied approximately 36 ounces of methamphetamine to PIGMAN.
Undercover law enforcement officers would have testified that they conducted four controlled buy operations with PIGMAN. In each of those, PIGMAN sold directly to a controlled source. The total amount of methamphetamine PIGMAN sold to the controlled sources during the buy operations was approximately nine ounces.
On November 18, 2009, PIGMAN's residence and vehicle were searched and approximately 16 ounces of methamphetamine were recovered.
When interviewed by law enforcement, PIGMAN admitted to obtaining approximately 121 ounces of methamphetamine from a source of supply known to law enforcement. She also admitted to obtaining a total of approximately 300 ounces of methamphetamine since 2006 from various sources for personal use and re-distribution.
Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that PIGMAN will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, PIGMAN does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.
