Informational: Federal Court Initial Appearance

The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Missoula, on October 13, 2011, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah C. Lynch, the following individual appeared:

SHELDON CHASE, a 22-year-old resident of Crow Agency, made an initial appearance on a complaint alleging three counts of first degree murder which took place within the exterior boundaries of the Crow Indian Reservation. He is currently detained. If charged with these offenses, CHASE faces possible penalties of life in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count. Assistant U.S. Attorney Vince Carroll is the prosecutor for the United States. The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

A complaint is merely a written statement of the essential facts constituting the offenses charged.
