The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings, on May 4, 2012, before Chief U.S. District Judge Richard F. Cebull, KAHLY DAWN CONNELL, a 22-year-old resident of Billings, appeared for sentencing. CONNELL was sentenced to a term of:

• Prison: 10 months

• Special Assessment: $200

• Supervised Release: 3 years

CONNELL was sentenced in connection with her guilty plea to distribution of Ecstasy.

In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marcia K. Hurd, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:

On November 11, 2010, CONNELL and another person sold 50 Ecstasy pills, a Schedule I controlled substance, to an undercover agent at an undercover location in Billings.

On November 15, 2010, CONNELL and another person sold 226 Ecstasy pills, a Schedule I controlled substance, to an undercover agent at an undercover location in Billings.

In both of the drug transactions, CONNELL and the other person knew the drug they were selling was Ecstasy, a Schedule I controlled substance.

Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that CONNELLL will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, CONNELLL does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
