The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Great Falls, on August 20, 2012, before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, ADRIAN FRANK NAULT, a 29-year-old resident of Box Elder, appeared for sentencing. NAULT was sentenced to a term of:

Prison: 108 months

Special Assessment: $100

Supervised Release: 4 years

NAULT was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine.

In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica A Betley, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:

On April 6, 2010, law enforcement conducted a controlled purchase of methamphetamine from NAULT, with the assistance of a confidential source (CS). The CS traveled to NAULT's home on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation and purchased approximately one gram of methamphetamine from NAULT.

Law enforcement agents and the CS made another controlled purchase of methamphetamine from NAULT again later that day at NAULT's home. The CS purchased approximately .3 grams of methamphetamine from NAULT that night.

Several witnesses would have testified that they had purchased methamphetamine from NAULT for at least a year and some for as long as five years.

The government would have proven that at least 350 grams of methamphetamine fell within the scope of NAULT's participation in this conspiracy.

Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that NAULT will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, NAULT does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.

The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tri-Agency Task Force.
