JAIME JEAN MORAN SENTENCED IN U.S. DISTRICT COURT
The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Great Falls, on August 12, 2012, before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, JAIME JEAN MORAN, a 31-year-old resident of Butte, appeared for sentencing. MORAN was sentenced to a term of:
Prison: 80 months
Special Assessment: $100
Supervised Release: 4 years
MORAN was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paulette L. Stewart, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:
In Great Falls on March 15, 2012, MORAN possessed approximately 12 ounces of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it.
On that date, MORAN provided two ounces of methamphetamine that was ultimately sold to two undercover officers by her co-defendants.
After that purchase, the officers learned that MORAN supplied the methamphetamine. The officers executed a search warrant at MORAN's hotel room in Great Falls. The officers located approximately 10 ounces of methamphetamine. The officers also located two digital scales and other items used in drug distribution.
An analysis by a chemist confirmed that all of the purported methamphetamine purchased from MORAN's co-defendants as well as the substance recovered from her hotel room in this case did contain methamphetamine. The lab weights for the methamphetamine attributable to MORAN is approximately 346 grams of substances containing methamphetamine.
Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that MORAN will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, MORAN does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.
The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, the U.S. Air Force - Office of Special Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration Chemist, the Great Falls Police Department, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
