The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Great Falls, on August 23, 2012, before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, BEVERLY PAULINE IRON PIPE-BEGAY, a 40-year-old resident of Great Falls, appeared for sentencing. PIPE-BEGAY was sentenced to a term of:

Prison: 10 months

Special Assessment: $200

Restitution: $24,753

Supervised Release: 2 years

PIPE-BEGAY was sentenced after a federal district court trial in which she was found guilty of theft of federal property by fraud. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Chad C. Spraker prosecuted the case for the United States.

Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that PIPE-BEGAY will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, PIPE-BEGAY does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.
