The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings, on September 12, 2012, before Chief U.S. District Judge Richard F. Cebull, PERRY NATION, a 50-year-old resident of Lodge Grass and an enrolled member on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, appeared for sentencing. NATION was sentenced to a term of:

• Prison: 235 months

• Special Assessment: $200

• Supervised Release: lifetime

NATION was sentenced after a federal district court trial in which he was found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse.

At trial, the following evidence and testimony was presented to the jury.

In 2004, NATION "forcibly" had sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old girl at his home in Lodge Grass on the Crow Indian Reservation. The victim stated that NATION threatened her by telling her that if she ever told anyone he would rape her again.

Also in 2004, a 7-year-old boy disclosed to his aunt that NATION sexually molested him. The victim stated that NATION was watching him while his mother was at work. The victim explained that he was in his bedroom when NATION came into his room. NATION put his hands down his pants and sexually molested him. The victim started to cry and NATION told him to shut up. After it was over, NATION told the victim not to say anything to anyone or NATION was going to "beat him up."

Assistant U.S. Attorney E. Vincent Carroll prosecuted the case for the United States.

Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that NATION will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, NATION does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
