The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings, on October 31, 2012, before Chief U.S. District Judge Richard F. Cebull, TEISHA NICOLE WEST, a 25-year-old resident of Billings, appeared for sentencing. WEST was sentenced to a term of:

Prison: 324 days with credit for time served (312 days)

Special Assessment: $100

Supervised Release: 3 years - 6 months of which is to be served at a halfway house

WEST was sentenced in connection with her guilty plea to knowingly transferring a firearm to a prohibited person.

In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marcia K. Hurd, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:

WEST is the registered owner of a Sig Sauer, model mosquito, .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol that she purchased in 2011.

On approximately November 29 or 30, 2011 she gave the gun to Anthony Roll, knowing and having reasonable cause to believe that Anthony Roll had been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. Roll had the gun on his person when he was arrested in the course of attempting a robbery of a drug courier for money.

Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that WEST will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, WEST does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
