Ali Dwayne Khan Found Guilty in U.S. Federal Court
The United States Attorney's Office announced that on November 14, 2012, in Billings, after a federal district court trial before Senior U.S. District Judge Jack D. Shanstrom, ALI DWAYNE KHAN, a 33-year-old resident of Billings, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Sentencing is set for February 13, 2013. He is currently detained.
KHAN pled guilty to being a felon-in-possession of a firearm at the beginning of the trial.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marcia K. Hurd prosecuted the case for the United States.
KHAN faces possible penalties of a mandatory minimum of 5 years and could be sentenced to 40 years, a $4,000,000 fine, and 4 years supervised release on each of the first two charges. In addition, KHAN faces an additional mandatory 5 year imprisonment, consecutive to any other sentence, for the possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.
The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Billings Big Sky Safe Streets Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
