Eric Lee Many Guns Sentenced in U.S. District Court
The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Great Falls, on December 20, 2012, before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, ERIC LEE MANY GUNS, a 33-year-old resident of Browning, appeared for sentencing. MANY GUNS was sentenced to a term of:
Prison: 33 months
Special Assessment: $100
Supervised Release: 3 years
MANY GUNS was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea to assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura B. Weiss, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:
ERIC LEE MANY GUNS, an enrolled member of the Blackfeet tribe, assaulted C.A.S.E. inside a house located within the exterior boundaries of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation on or about February 1, 2012. He punched her several times in the face, resulting in a significantly torn lip. She ultimately broke free and ran out the door to a neighbor's house. The treating physician described the victim's lip as "flapping in the breeze," requiring multiple suture to repair.
Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that MANY GUNS will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, MANY GUNS does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.
The investigation was conducted by a cooperative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Blackfeet Law Enforcement.
