CONVICTED FELON SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION OF FIREARMS
WILMINGTON - United States Attorney George E. B. Holding announced that in federal court today Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox sentenced JAMES JEFFREY DUNCAN, 47, Castle Hayne, North Carolina, to 120 months’ imprisonment, three years supervised release, and a $5,600 fine.
A Criminal Indictment filed by the United States Attorney’s Office on September 7, 2006, charged DUNCAN with being a felon in possession of a firearm. On February 8, 2007, DUNCAN was found guilty in a trial by jury of the charge in the one-count Indictment.
In 1989, DUNCAN was previously convicted, via court martial, for voluntary manslaughter of his fiancé, and, in 2003, plead guilty and was sentenced for taking indecent liberties with a minor.
Investigation of the case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the United States Marshals Service; and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jason Cowley and Special Assistant United States Attorney Timothy Severro were prosecution for the government.
