BAILEY MAN RECEIVES FEDERAL PRISON SENTENCE

FOR ILLEGAL DRUG DISTRIBUTION

WILMINGTON - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on April 13, 2009, Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox, sentenced TIMOTHY HAYMAN, 46, of Bailey, North Carolina, to 236 months’ imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release.

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Superseding Criminal Indictment on November 6, 2008. On November 17, 2008, HAYMAN pled guilty to conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (crack) and a quantity of cocaine.

The investigation revealed that HAYMAN had deliver between 13 and 14 ounces (364 grams) of crack cocaine to an individual in 2004. On July 3, 2006, a deputy with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office stopped HAYMAN in Wilson County. Information had been received that HAYMAN was trafficking crack cocaine in the area. An officer, while out on patrol, spotted HAYMAN and performed a traffic stop. During a search, the officer found 2.2 grams of crack cocaine. Further investigation revealed that in 2007, HAYMAN sold three ounces of crack a month from January to December for an approximate total of one kilogram of crack sold for that year.

This case is part of Operation Cold-Wind that began in 2006 to target mid-level drug traffickers in Nash and Wilson counties. Approximately 40 defendants have been sentenced.
