UNITED STATES ATTORNEY’S OFFICE, FEDERAL LITIGATION UNIT
RECEIVES AWARD
RALEIGH - The Federal Litigation Unit (FLU) of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina received the Leadership Award from the North Carolina Victim Assistance Network (NCVAN) for their aggressive collection of restitution for crime victims by utilizing various legal actions. The presentation was held on October 21, 2009, at the Sheraton/Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Those receiving the award included:
Katherine Burnette, Assistant United States Attorney
Margaret Davis, Forensic Certified Public Accountant
Sarah Aman, Paralegal Specialist
Claire Farland, Debt Collection Agent
Charlene Harris, Debt Collection Agent
David Stearns, Debt Collection Agent.
Mr. Holding stated, “This award is well deserved. The FLU has and is utilizing all avenues afforded them to collect the monies owed to victims of crimes from federal litigation. I am proud of their innovative thinking, hard work, and dedication.”
The North Carolina Victim Assistance Network is a non-profit organization that promotes the rights and needs of victims of crimes through the education of citizens and public policy leaders. At the presentation, Tom Bennett, Executive Director of NCVAN, stated, “Crime victims who deserve restitution have an effective ally in the FLU, and the unit’s strenuous efforts to win justice for these victims marks the unit as a worthy recipient of this year’s NCVAN Leadership Award.”
