ASSISTANT UNITED STATES ATTORNEY RECEIVES AWARD

FROM UNITED STATES ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS

RALEIGH - Banumathi Rangarajan of Raleigh was honored today by Colonel Jefferson Ryscavage, District Commander for the United States Army Corps of Engineers - Wilmington District.Colonel Ryscavage bestowed upon Ms. Rangarajan the Commander's Award for Public Service in recognition of her significant contributions to the mission of the USACOE - Wilmington District.

“I want to thank the Army Corps for their recognition of the work of this office generally and of Ms. Rangarajan specifically. Banu has for many years been a key part of our effort to support the work of the corps in prosecuting environmental offenses and this recognition is well deserved,” stated Mr. Holding.

From November 2002 to May 2009, Ms. Rangarajan worked closely with the Wilmington District to being three major criminal cases to conclusion; each case resulted in felony convictions for violations of the Clean Water Act, Rivers and Harbors Act, and/or material false statements in a matter within the jurisdiction of the Corps. In each instance, she worked tirelessly to bring each case to successful completion, and in so doing,increased the public's knowledge of and compliance with Army regulations at no cost to the District.Her positive attitude and tireless effort resulted in a consistently high level of customer service that reflects the highest credit upon herself, the Wilmington District and The United States Army Corps of Engineers.
