MAXTON DRUG DEALER RECEIVES FEDERAL TIME

RALEIGH - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court yesterday United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle sentenced JONATHON RAY QUICK, 29, of Maxton, North Carolina, to 168 months’ imprisonment.

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on July 23, 2009. On November 17, 2009, QUICK pled guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, 50 grams or more of cocaine base (crack) and less than 50 kilograms of marijuana.

After coming to the attention of law enforcement and the subsequent performance of controlled buys in which QUICK sold cocaine, QUICK was arrested on March 3, 2009, at his residence in Maxton, North Carolina. Following QUICK’s arrest, a consent search was conducted at his residence. Agents found approximately 11.6 grams of powder cocaine, approximately 918 grams of marijuana and several rifles and hand guns.

Further, the investigation revealed that QUICK was involved in the selling of more than 200 kilograms of cocaine.

The investigation leading to QUICK’s arrest is part of an Organized Crime Enforcement Drug Task Force (OCDETF) operation entitled “Matador.” QUICK’s illegal activities are part of a drug trafficking organization based in southeastern North Carolina including Robeson, Cumberland, and the immediately surrounding counties. The investigation revealed that the drugs trafficked by this organization are produced outside of the United States and are transported to North Carolina via sources in Atlanta, Georgia and Alabama. QUICK’s arrest and the part of the investigation focusing on his illegal activities was conducted by the Cumberland County Bureau of Narcotics.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office and the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney J. Frank Bradsher represented the government.
