KINSTON DRUG DEALER SENTENCED

RALEIGH - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge James C. Dever III, sentenced MAURICE CLINTON BROWN III, 39, of Kinston, North Carolina, to 120 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Superseding Criminal Indictment on January 14, 2010. On May 17, 2010, BROWN pled guilty to conspiring to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine and more than 50 grams of cocaine base (crack).

In an ongoing investigation, it was learned that BROWN had been selling illicit narcotics. According to the investigation, in October, 2008, law enforcement arranged several controlled drug buys of crack cocaine from BROWN at is Kinston residence. As the investigation progressed it was learned that BROWN had conspired with other known drug dealers from Lenoir and Pitt Counites to sell 15 kilograms of cocaine from 1999 to 2008.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Lenior County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Invstigation and the Greenville Drug Task Force. Special Assistant United States Attorney W. Glenn Perry represented the government. Prosecutor.Mr. Perry is a prosecutor with the Pitt County District Attorney’s Office.District Attorney Clark Everett has assigned him to the United States Attorney’s Office to prosecute federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force criminal matters.This has been made possible by a grant funded by the Governor’s Crime Commission.
