AYDEN DRUG DEALER SENTENCED
RALEIGH - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge James C. Dever III, sentenced MARVETTE ONTRION NEWTON, 35, of Ayden, North Carolina, to 192 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release. According to Court statements, NEWTON was sentenced as a career offender, receiving an enhanced sentence because of his prior criminal history.
A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on November 19, 2009. On January 25, 2010, NEWTON pled guilty to conspiring to distribute and possession with the intent to distribution 50 grams or more of cocaine base (crack) and a quantity of cocaine.
After the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office received information in August, 2009, regarding NEWTON selling illegal drugs, several controlled purchases were arranged by law enforcement. According the investigation, from August 12, 2009, to October 16, 2009, four controlled buys were performed in which a total of 60.7087 grams of crack cocaine were purchased from NEWTON. On October 16, 2009, NEWTON was arrested and following a search 5.3255 grams of crack cocaine and 2.2621 grams of powder cocaine were found on NEWTON. Further investigation showed that NEWTON was responsible for distributing over 3 kilograms of crack cocaine from 2008 until his arrest in 2009.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office and the Farmville Police Department. Special Assistant United States Attorney W. Glenn Perry represented the government.
