DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON TERM

RALEIGH - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge James C Dever III, sentenced MALIK OTHMAN MOYE, 33, of Winterville, North Carolina, to 108 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on August 11, 2010. On November 15, 2010, MOYE pled guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine base (crack), 5 grams of cocaine, and a quantity of marijuana and possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to the investigation, law enforcement had an ongoing investigation of numerous Greenville individuals selling narcotics. MOYE was identified as one of those individuals. In 2004, a traffic stop of MOYE’s vehicle was performed. A search of the vehicle turned up over $3,000 in cash. Also found, between the front seat and console compartment, was a small quantity of marijuana along with digital scales and cocaine residue from the trunk.

In the course of the investigation, it was learned that from 1999 to 2008, MOYE purchased over 9.3 kilograms of crack cocaine and 90 kilograms of powder cocaine. In 2007, a controlled buy was arranged in which 14.1 grams of cocaine was purchased from MOYE. In 2008, following the surveillance of MOYE at his

workplace, officers interviewed MOYE, when he admitted he had cocaine, firearms and $6,000 at his residence. A search of MOYE’s residence revealed three firearms, over $6,000 in U.S. currency, plastic bags containing cocaine residue, and 126 grams of powder cocaine.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the Greenville Police Department. Special Assistant United States Attorney Glenn Perry was the assigned Prosecutor.Mr. Perry is a prosecutor with the Pitt County District Attorney’s Office.District Attorney Clark Everett has assigned him to the United States Attorney’s Office to prosecute federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force criminal matters.This has been made possible by a grant funded by the Governor’s Crime Commission.
