WILMINGTON - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today Senior United States District Court Judge James C. Fox sentenced SHAWN D. STAMPER to 77 months imprisonment.

On September 20, 2011, a Federal Grand Jury returned a Superseding Criminal Indictment. On January 17, 2012, STAMPER pled guilty to possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

According to the investigation, on January 29, 2011, STAMPER, 25, along with co-defendants Jamie M. Hargrove and Sieel Allen, sold a Ruger .380 handgun, which had been stolen. According to the Indictment, STAMPER was convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence involving at least two counts of assault on a female in November, 2004, and November, 2005.

On February 28, 2012, Allen was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment for two counts of possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition for which he pled guilty. Hargrove pled guilty on March 13, 2012, to knowingly selling a gun and ammunition to a convicted felon and unlawful possess of a firearm by a convicted felon. His sentencing is currently set for the July 2, 2012, term of court.

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case.
