convicted felon sentenced to prison for firearm possession

Raleigh - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that today in federal court Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever, sentenced JASON RYAN WARRING to serve 54 months in prison, and an additional 3 years of supervised release, on charges that he illegally possessed a firearm and ammunition while being a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g) and 924.

Police reports revealed that on March 4, 2012 the Oxford Police Department responded to a report from a female that a prowler was attempting to enter her home and was knocking on the door and window.  Upon arrival at the residence an officer found JASON RYAN WARRING and another man attempting to walk away from the premises.  The officer ordered the men to stop, but WARRING did not immediately comply.   During an ensuring pat-down search the officer discovered that WARRING was in possession of, among other things, a loaded .40 caliber handgun.  Warring later admitted to possession of the firearm.

On April 17, 2012 WARRING was indicted on charges that he illegally possessed a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of a felony, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Seciton 922(g) and 924.  WARRING pled guilty to the charges on August 22, 2012. 

The investigation of this case was handled by the Oxford Police Department with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.  Assistant United States Attorney William M. Gilmore represented the United States.
