felon sentenced for unlawful possession of firearms
GREENVILLE - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today CHRISTOPHER MARK SAUNDERS, 29, was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Malcolm J. Howard to 96 months imprisonment followed 3 years of supervised release.
On September 10, 2012, SAUNDERS pled guilty to two counts of the unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924. According to the Indictment returned on July 17, 2012, SAUNDERS was found in possession of firearms in 2008, and again in 2011. The investigation revealed SAUNDERS, who lives in Henderson, North Carolina, was in possession of a handgun and shotgun in 2008 and a sawed off shotgun in 2011.
This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case.
