HENDERSON MAN PLEADS TO GUILTY TO FIREARMS CHARGES
WILMINGTON - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court on January 17, 2012, SHAWN D. STAMPER, 25, pled guilty before Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox to possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
On September 20, 2011, a Federal Grand Jury returned a Superseding Criminal Indictment.
According to the investigation, on January 29, 2011, STAMPER, along with co-defendants Jamie M. Hargrove and Sieel Allen, sold a Ruger .380 handgun, which had been stolen. According to the Indictment, STAMPER was convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence regarding at least two counts of assault on a female in November, 2004, and November, 2005.
At sentencing, for April, 2012, STAMPER faces up to 10 years imprisonment for each charge.
On November 8, 2011, Allen pled guilty to two counts of possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition. His sentencing is set for February 27th, 2012. Hargrove is scheduled to be arraigned on March 12, 2012.
This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case.
