felon pleads guilty to unlawful possession of firearm
GREENVILLE - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court yesterday GREG LAMONT DANIELS, 22, pled guilty before United States Distrcit Judge Malcolm J. Howard to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924.
On October 19, 2011, a Federal Grand Jury returned an Indictment charging DANIELS. According to the Indictment, DANIELS was found in possession of a Smith & Wesson 357 handgun on May 24, 2011. According to the investigation, DANIELS, who lives in Henderson, North Carolina, sold the gun outside of his residence during an arranged controlled purchase.
This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.
The maximum penalties include up to 10 years imprisonment followed by up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. If the Court deems DANIELS to be an Armed Career Offender, he faces up to a term of life imprisonment followed by up to five years supervised release.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette is prosecuting the case.
