RALEIGH - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever III, sentenced JAMES ANTHONY BULLOCK, 32, to 120 months imprisonment followed by three years supervised release.   The sentence reflects an upward departure due to BULLOCK’s criminal history.
     A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on September 20, 2011. On January 9, 2012, BULLOCK pled guilty to unlawful possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. 

     According to the investigation, on May 19, 2011, Henderson police responded to a 9-1-1 call, in which shots fired was reported.  A man later identified as BULLOCK got into an argument with a man staying at a Hughes Street address.  BULLOCK began firing shots at the man and the man’s uncle, who was on the porch.  When the grandmother of the man returned home, shots were fired toward her and she narrowly escaped injury.  Young children were playing in the area at the time of the shooting.

Officers took a description of the clothing BULLOCK was wearing and witnesses pointed the direction of BULLOCK’s escape.  When officers apprehended BULLOCK, BULLOCK showed them where he had hidden the gun.  BULLOCK was initially charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits.

After his release and after being instructed not to return, BULLOCK went back to the same area.  He was arrested and charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. 

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department.  Assistant United States Attorney s. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case.
