WILMINGTON - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today JAMIE M. HARGROVE, 35, pled guilty before Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox to knowingly selling a gun and ammunition to a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(d)(1) and 924, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924.

On September 20, 2011, a Federal Grand Jury returned a Superseding Criminal Indictment.

According to the investigation, from January, 2011, until May, 2011, HARGROVE, sold, or tried to sell, firearms to a buyer whom  HARGROVE knew or had reason to believe that the buyer could not legally possess a firearm.  HARGROVE’s charges involved an 870 Remington shotgun and ammunition, and a Highpoint 9mm handgun and ammunition.

At sentencing, set for the July 2, 2012, term of court, for each charge HARGROVE faces up to 10 years imprisonment.  If the Court deems that he is an Armed Career Offender, he faces up to life imprisonment.

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department.  Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case.
