RALEIGH - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today, SHAWN KENYATTA BEAMON, 35, of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, was sentenced to 160 months imprisonment by United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle.

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on July 14, 2011.  On June 15, 2012, BEAMON pled guilty to possess with the intent to distribute and distribute a quantity of heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1). All in violation of Title 21, United staes Code, Section 846. 

According to evidence presented in court, BEAMON obtained heroin from the Tidewater area of Virginia for distribution into North Carolina. On October 13, 2010, BEAMON sold a quantity of heroin to an agent of the government the Wal-Mart parking lot in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

This case was brought as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Operation entitled Dare Devil, investigating importers and multi-level distributors of cocaine, cocaine base (crack), and heroin into Dare and Currituck Counties.  To date, 13 people have been sentenced in federal court as a part of this operation.

Investigation of this OCDETF case is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, the Nags Head Police Department and the Kill Devil Hill Police Department.  Special Assistant United States Attorney Timothy Severo represented the government.  Mr Severo is a prosecutor with the New Hanover District Attorney’s Office.  District Attorney Ben David has assigned him to the United States Attorney’s office to prosecute federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force criminal matters.  This has been made possible by a grant funded by the Governor’s Crime Commission and the New Hanover County Commissioners.
