
united states attorney announces national prescription drug take-back day
RALEIGH - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced today that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is holding its National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, September 29, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will be DEA’s fifth time collecting unused, unneeded, and expired prescription drugs. To date the agency has received 1.5 million pounds, or 774 tons, of prescription drugs from the public.
U.S. Attorney Walker stated, “Prescription Drug Abuse is a national scourge and I am delighted to partner in this event that will safely remove unneeded prescriptions medication, that when abused, are so dangerous to consume.”
Anyone interested in finding a location that is participating in the Take-Back Day can go to the DEA Diversion website at http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/ and click on the Got Drugs? icon. A search for the closest collection site can be done using a zip code, or by county, city, or state. Another option for finding a collection site is to call 1-800-882-9539.
