Greensboro Dermatologist Pleads Guilty To Tax Charges

Greensboro, N.C. – John W. Stone, Jr., Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina announced today that Clyde Nolan, Jr. of Greensboro pled guilty on Thursday November 4, 2010 to one count of failure to pay payroll taxes and one count of failing to file a personal income tax return.

According to documents filed in the case Nolan failed to account for and pay over taxes withheld from the pay of employees of his dermatology practice in Greensboro between 2003 and 2006. Nolan also willfully failed to file a personal income tax return for calendar year 2004, a year in which he was required to file a return.

Nolan is scheduled to be sentencing on March 16, 2011. Count One (failure to pay payroll taxes) is punishable by a maximum term of imprisonment of not more than five years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. Count Two (willful failure to file tax returns) is punishable by a maximum term of imprisonment of not more than one year, a fine of not more than $25,000, or both. The defendant may also be placed on a term of supervised release of not more than three years. Restitution can also be ordered.

The case was investigated by special agents of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division.
