
Washington township, new jersey felon sentenced to prison for weapons stockpile

TRENTON, N.J. – A Bergen County man who is a previously convicted felon was sentenced today to 70 months in federal prison for possessing a cache of 36 firearms in his Washington Township home and an additional gun in his car, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Daniel M. Furesz, 62, of Washington Township, N.J., previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Peter G. Sheridan to an Indictment charging him with two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Judge Sheridan also imposed the sentence today in Trenton federal court.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
On September 10, 2009, Furesz knowingly had a Smith & Wesson model 60-9, .357 magnum handgun in his 1993 Buick LeSabre in Bergen County.
Furesz also knowingly possessed at least 36 additional firearms in his Washington Township home on December 3, 2009. The cache included handguns and long guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition in various calibers, and other weapons and firearms paraphernalia. It also included a semi-automatic gun capable of accepting a large-capacity magazine.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Sheridan sentenced Furesz to three years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Matthew W. Horace, with the investigation of the case. He also thanked the Hasbrouck Heights, Rutherford, Garfield, and Washington Township Police Departments for their important roles, and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of John L. Molinelli, which brought the initial charges.
