Camden man pleads guilty to robbing new jersey bank

CAMDEN, N.J. – A Camden man pleaded guilty today to robbing the TD Bank in West Deptford, N.J., on January 25, 2011, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Angel Luis Martinez, 52, pleaded guilty to an Information charging him with bank robbery, admitting he robbed the TD Bank in West Deptford of $10,000. Martinez entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Joseph E. Irenas in Camden federal court.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
On January 25, 2011, Martinez entered a TD Bank in West Deptford, approached a bank teller and threatened her, saying: “This is a robbery, give me $10,000 or I will shoot you.” The bank teller complied with Martinez’s demand, going to the bank’s vault with Martinez waiting outside. Afterward, Martinez fled the bank with the money.
The charge to which Martinez pleaded guilty carries a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for August 2, 2011.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent In Charge George Venizelos in Philadelphia, as well as the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, the West Deptford Township Police Department, and the Woodbury City Police Department, for their work leading to today’s guilty plea.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Diana Carrig of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Camden.
