Newark man sentenced to 110 months in prison for four bank robberies and one attempted bank robbery

NEWARK, N.J. – A Newark man was sentenced today to 110 months in prison for robbing four banks in Newark, including the same TD bank on Raymond Boulevard twice in six weeks, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Clifton E. Mosley, 44, of Newark, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Claire C. Cecchi in Newark federal court to an Information charging him with four counts of bank robbery and one count of attempted bank robbery. Mosley also admitted an attempted bank robbery in East Orange, N.J.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
• On Dec. 29, 2011, Mosley entered the TD Bank at 1180 Raymond Boulevard in Newark and handed a bank teller a handwritten note stating: “Give me 2,500 I have a gun.”
• On Jan. 13, 2012, Mosley entered a PNC Bank at 469 Central Avenue in Newark and handed a bank teller a handwritten note stating: “Money now or I will start shooting! No Alarm or Dye Pack! 3 Seconds.”
• On Feb. 11, 2012, Mosley again entered the TD Bank at 1180 Raymond Boulevard and handed a bank teller a handwritten note stating: “Give me all you [sic] money or I will start shooting!!” As the teller removed the money from her drawer, the defendant said, “Don’t give me the dye money.”
• On Feb. 17, 2012, Mosley entered another TD Bank, at 105-109 Mulberry Street in Newark and handed a bank teller a handwritten note stating: “Hand over the money or I start shooting.”
• On Feb. 23, 2012, Mosley entered a PNC bank located at 565 Main Street in East Orange, N.J., and handed a bank teller a handwritten note stating: “Put money in window NOW! No Alarm or Die [sic] Pack or We Start Shooting 5 Seconds!” Mosley fled the bank before completing the robbery.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Cecchi sentenced Mosley to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $7,759 in restitution.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents with the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward in Newark, and the Newark Police Department, under the direction of Police Director Samuel A. DeMaio and Chief Sheilah A. Coley, with the investigation leading to the arrest.
