Las Vegas, Nev. – A Las Vegas woman who operated an income tax return preparation service was sentenced today to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay $49,000 in restitution following her guilty plea to aiding and assisting fraudulent and false statements in IRS returns, announced Daniel G. Bogden, United States Attorney for the District of Nevada.

Robin Conrado, age 57, operated an income tax return preparation service in Las Vegas under the name, "Rob's Tax Service." During the tax years 1999 through 2002, Ms. Conrado willfully prepared approximately 20 income tax returns for seven individuals containing false and fraudulent representations. The tax loss to the IRS was approximately $123,996, but approximately $75,000 was repaid to the IRS by one tax return filer, resulting in an actual loss to the IRS of approximately $49,000.

The sentence was increased because Ms. Conrado was in the business of preparing tax returns and because she instructed some of her employees in the criminal activity. Ms. Conrado is currently released on bond, but must self-report to federal prison on October 23, 2006.

This case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christina M. Brown.
